Happy 100th Birthday to Don the Beachcomber! (Z07.22)

Need another reason to celebrate Zombruary?

How about the 100th birthday of the creator of the Zombie cocktail? Yep, on this day back in 1907, Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt entered the world. Gantt, who legally changed his name to Donn Beach, is better known as Don the Beachcomber. Island hopper extraordinaire, Tiki restaurateur and champion of rum-based cocktails, Donn’s Zombie cocktail became popular after being served at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
He also was known for creating "Tahitian Rum Punch" and for claiming (as did Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron) to have invented the Mai Tai. Donn died in his adopted home of Honolulu in 1989, sadly not living to see the resurgence of Tiki culture, which owes so much to his vision.
