Interview with Dan Witz for Juxtapoz

Last week, I had a opportunity to have a chat and a roam around Brick Lane with artist Dan Witz before the opening of his show at StolenSpace. Here's the result:

Dan Witz - Interview

Tuesday, 10 April 2007

Our UK art show photographer Chris Osburn orchestrated an interview with Dan Witz before his show at StolenSpace in London on April 5th. Talking points: the smell of piss, cops, Giuliani, mosh pits, souls, and getting a black eye from a rough incident with a camera.

Great historical photography blog!

Do yourself a favor and check out Shorpy.com, "the 100-year-old photography blog that brings our ancestors back, at least to the desktop ... The site is named after Shorpy Higginbotham, a boy who worked in an Alabama coal mine near the turn of the century."

Thanks to Jen, for letting me in on this great site!

Tiki Racer dabbling in lino

Today, I got an email from Tiki Racer with a few pics of his foray into lino block printing. According to the Racer, "First run of about 20 all done and drying now. Will do more runs but plan to do different colourways on each." Very cool. Check 'em out:

SWEET TOOF interview for Whitehot Magazine

Chris Osburn interviews SWEET TOOF
by Chris Osburn
whitehot magazine of contemporary art
April 2007

I got into it after watching a film called “Style Wars” by Henry Chalfant, also “Beat Street” and the book Subway Art are to blame. When I started I was into letter forms and characters. Years ago it would be skinny cap tags; today, it’s fat cap. When I started, the paint was thinner and today the paint can cover most surfaces. I still do the odd letter form piece, but now I’m more interested in what I can get my teeth into … also working with cut outs and paste-ups.

Uli

Uli's kidney disease finally got the best of him, and we had to say goodbye. He was one of the sweetest souls I've ever met and one of the best friends I'll ever have.

Thank you, Uli, for giving me some of the happiest moments of my life. I love you so much, little friend.

Joni Mitchell's California

Now that Colorado has made "Rocky Mountain High" an official state song, I think California should follow suit and make Joni Mitchell's "California" their official song. Mitchell had a golden voice back in the day, and this song's more a love letter than an anthem. When I hear it, I wish I lived there.

Fake volcano erupts in Minnesota

Guests flee volcano fire
Sky News

An imitation volcano at a Minnesota hotel and water park forced swimmers to flee after it started erupting like a real one. The 20 foot tall plastic volcano at the complex's swimming pool started belching black smoke and shooting flames.

Out like a lamb (Friday March 30, 2007)

Did you know that 26% more people are visiting Rapa Nui than last year? That's quite an increase. Of course, with London hotel rooms being among some of the most expensive in Europe, all sorts of exotic locales may now seem like feasible destinations.

Plenty of reviews, photos, and zaniness for you to check out this week.

Have a great weekend,
Tiki Chris

Peace is for wussies

Not to get political, but I just thought this article/podcast was fascinating. Why folks would get so up in arms (no pun intended) about actually trying to strategically avoid bloodshed is beyond me. Oh well.
