Quantum of So What?

He's really good. She's absolutely stunning. But, sadly, the new James Bond movie is just boring. It simply wasn't that much fun. The only time I was on the edge of my seat during Quantum of Solace was when I started anticipating the end and thought I could get up and stretch my legs. Casino Royale this ain't.

John Waters on Sarah Palin, Abortion and Rednecks

Hey, I caught the John Waters "This Filthy Life" stand up routine/monologue at the Hammersmith Apollo earlier in the week. Loved it! Here are a couple of highlights:

South Seas Cinema: Eux et Moi

Welcome to South Seas Cinema, a series of posts about films set in – or pertaining to – Polynesia and the South Pacific.

Okay okay, so it's been months since I posted anything in my SSC series. I blame an ocean of other obligations and, honestly, just not coming across any truly inspiring movies with the right sort of South Seas slant. Anyway, I recently happened upon a set of good ones that has me all fired up to rant about. It's called Eux et Moi, a DVD collection of two short films by French ethnographer, Stéphane Breton, about his experiences in "the field" - a small village in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.

Eux et Moi is post-modern Anthropology at its most compelling. Breton shares his insights, discoveries and doubts openly in equal measure as a social scientist and storyteller. His rapport with the villagers makes for great viewing, and - without giving too much away - his inadvertent role in shaping the dynamics of the village is fascinating.

Eux et Moi is narrated in English and French with subtitles in both as well. I'm not quite sure how to get ahold of a copy. Unless, like me, you pick one up at the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris. Here's a link to the museum's bookstore; they might be able to help.

L'Art du Bain

Shot early on a Sunday morning from a hotel window in the 16th Arrodisment of Paris. Sad. The subject had been standing there for some time before I ever looking out of the window and was there at least a minute or two before I grabbed my camcorder.

Not only the world’s most famous graffiti stencil artist, England’s own beloved Banksy is also one heck of a studio artist. Don’t believe us (or any of the hype surrounding Banksy)? See for yourself at Andipa Gallery, where – starting this Friday – many of Banksy’s works is to be on view.

... the bulk of exhibition is comprised of studio pieces which are very much available for purchase, if you've got the funds. For instance, an exceptional acrylic on canvas painting titled Sharks has a price tag of around £40,000 (yep, that's roughly $80,000).

London Bloggers Meetup: The Movie

Earlier this week, I attended the London Bloggers Meetup, aptly organized by Andy Bargery. The event was a lot of fun, especially with the kind folks from Qype buying the first couple of rounds of drinks. Those same quirky Qypers posted London Bloggers Meetup: The movie, which along with some shaky footage of everybody's friendly faces lists many of the bloggers in attendence along with links to their blogs. Cool.

Furries Dancing in a Bowling Alley

Okay okay okay. I know it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in September when Pint Champion bravely investigated the Furries versus Klingons bowling competition in Atlanta for us. But, that October to New Years Eve dash is always a mad one for me. Anyway - and without further ado - here are PC's clips from that momentous occasion. Thanks man!

Those damn furries again.

Thank you Jesus for Robert Tilton and his flatulent praise! With such quality viewing available for free and at our fingers tips, I reckon those writers on strike out in Hollywood have one hell of an uphill battle ahead of them!
