Artist Profile: Cyclops (31DoHM07)
Two Artist Profiles in one month? Hey, why not? I’m just making up for no profiles during August and September. Anyway, with all the Halloween-ing and Skull Mask Project-ing going on these days, I figured I should dedicate at least a little bit of blog space to London/Bristol street artist, Cyclops. He’s one of my art heroes with an intensity that makes you think, “wow, this guy’s a true artist!” … or at least, that’s been my reaction on a number of occasions. Cyclops thinks big and prolific. His massive skulls (all over East London and much of Bristol) are a somber and undeniable reality check. Along with graf buddy Sweet Toof, Cyclops has virtually redefined East London's urban landscape. I could say much, much more about this guy. But, I’ll keep this profile short ‘n’ sweet and simply refer you to all the much, much more I’ve already said about him:http://tikichris.blogspot.com/2007/08/cyclops-sweet-toof-in-paris.html

Week was a Whirl (Friday October 26, 2007)
Cool stuff I this week:
Dan Witz was in town and added a bit of "Kilroy" to the Brick Lane area. And speaking of "Kilroy", I interviewed London graffiti artist, Tek33 for Whitehot Magazine. I also continued with my Milan photo series and got back to writing about how much I ♥ T-Shirts, particularly my Slayer T-shirt. Writing my lunch reviews for Londonist, I raised a bit of a ruckus, with a mild thumbs up for a hot dog vendor. Too funny.
In my spare time, I marvelled at this week's amazing Halloween Skull Mask Project contributions by these gifted artists:
Pierre Halé
Porkchop
robotidiot
Skull-A-Day
Space Pafpaf
Squid
Sweet Toof
So much more!
Have a great weekend,
Tiki Chris
Below is a list of recent posts from four blogs that I administer: ontoLondon, ontoTravel, Rapa Nui News, and Tiki Chris. Each Friday, I hope to provide a weekly review of what I've posted. If a particular blog interests you, keep in mind that I’ve been blogging since well before this past week. You may want to take a look through the archives of any blog that interests you. Thanks.

I spend all day making art indoors on canvas to go on show in galleries around the world, so that's all good and positive but on the way home from drinking or for a fun adventure when I'm sober my passion is to paint graffiti in traditional New York subway based styles. It's not for sale, just pure passion.

I ♥ T-Shirts: SLAYER (31DoHM07)
Comfortable, practical, and these days the only accessory you need to make a statement, it's hard to imagine a world without the ubiquitous T-shirt. I ♥ T-Shirts takes a subjective approach to this modern fashion phenomenon with each post dealing with a favorite shirt. In this Halloween-related post, I blog about one of my favourite "in a mood" T-shirts.
Shirt: Slayer
Designer: ??
Price: Under $5
Purchased: 2007 on eBay
Status: I wear it when I'm in a "mood"
No deep story behind this T-shirt. It was simply an impulse buy on eBay one night when a song by Slayer (a long standing favourite band of mine) came up on my iTunes shuffle. The tee's image of a human skeleton with swords forming some sort of monster skull is ridiculous yet menacing and reminds me of just the sort of bad movies and good books I delved into as a kid. Indeed, ever since I was twelve, I've been drawn to graphics accompanying Slayer merchandise. Back then, my mom would have probably burned any such T-shirt and by the time of my later teen years, I was way too cool to be seen in such garb. Perhaps the purchase of this shirt was a symptom of a mild form of not-quite-mid-life-crisis? A moment of Death Metal Peter Pan-ic?

Whatever my convoluted motives, I particularly enjoy watching for any passer-by reactions when I wear my Slayer T-shirt with, say, something along the lines of my Barbour jacket. When the mood's right, nothing beats having a Slayer T-shirt stowed away to add a pinch of grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to my day.
